About Britney Thomas
Hello, hi, and welcome!
Who I am
I’m Britney, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. I care deeply for people who are hurting and trying to make sense of themselves, especially those who have felt overlooked or misunderstood: neurodivergent individuals, people of color, queer folks, and self-identified nerds and misfits.
What energizes me most is working with people who are curious and open to change, who want to better understand how to care for themselves while building healthier, more authentic relationships. I find so much meaning in witnessing that moment when things begin to click. When someone’s inner “spark” lights up as they discover what actually works for them. I believe everyone deserves support in putting their pieces together, and I feel honored to walk alongside people as they move toward empowerment, clarity, and a stronger sense of self.
What I know
I understand how easy it is for people to internalize the idea that something is “wrong” with them when they’re struggling in a world that was never designed to support the way their brains work. Many of the clients I work with come in feeling self-conscious about their neurodivergence, or wondering if they might be neurodivergent at all, while also carrying the weight of past trauma that still feels present in their daily lives. They’re often overwhelmed by thoughts and emotions that feel hard to manage, and unsure how to communicate their needs or receive support within their relationships. Over time, this can erode self-esteem and create patterns of instability or disconnection. I see how painful and confusing that experience can be, and I also see the powerful shifts that happen when someone feels truly understood, supported, and equipped with tools that actually fit them.
How I help
I help people identify the different pieces of themselves and their lives: the good, the bad, and the ugly, and translate that awareness into practical, sustainable change. I work as a curious partner in the process, and together we approach the heavy questions that so often feel stuck and overwhelming: How do I stop my trauma from impacting my relationships? How can I move through anxiety without feeling consumed by it? In our work, I bring skills and therapeutic techniques that we treat as experiments, not prescriptions, so we can gently test, adjust, and refine what actually works for you. The goal is not to force change, but to build a way of living and relating that feels more grounded, more intentional, and more aligned with who you are.
Why I do what I do
I live with neurodivergence, and I understand what it can feel like to go without adequate support: feeling different, lonely, and anxious. Over time, I’ve learned to appreciate how my mind works and to develop creative, practical ways to find success in school, work, and relationships. I want other people to have the joy of feeling seen and understood. that is why I work in supporting them in building lives where they can thrive without being driven by panic or anxiety.
